PhysioYoga weekly vlog week 23 – 2018 – pain on inside of knee

One of the most common knee problems is pain on the inside of the knee. Even without damage being done to the tissues (like ligaments and menisci) there are a lot of people suffering from this. The most common reason is an imbalance: the muscles on the inside of the knee and leg are too strong compared to the muscles on the outside.

Here is an exercise for you to balance this out. You can do it wherever you are (waiting on the bus, standing in a que, etc…). By doing this regularly during the day you reprogram your body to use your knees and legs in a more balanced way!

PhysioYoga weekly vlog week 21 – 2018 – uddiyana bandha

Uddiyana bandha is one of the most interesting pranayama exercises that I know of. As it is usually done wrongly using abdominal muscles I made this video to explain how it should be done to achieve the best results.

The proper instructions are:
exhale completely using abdominal muscles – close glottis and keep it closed (so no breathing) – bring chin to chest (jalandhara bandha) – relax abdomen – expand chest – hold
when coming out of it: release expansion of chest – relax jalandhara bandha – inhale and observe your breath and energy flow

Benefits flexibility in diafragm and chest, enhances your breathing, enhances bloodflow to abdominal organs, releases tension from front side of spine, in doing so it lenghtens the spine and releases any pressure on the spinal nerves, this helps to increase sensitivity and strength in the limbs, supports upward flow of blood and energy towards the brain

Do not do this with high blood pressure conditions, headache, eyeproblems.

PhysioYoga weekly vlog week 17 – 2018 – forward bend (uttanasana) with active quadriceps

This week I talk about how to use active quadriceps to open up the back of the leg (hamstrings). It might take some time to get a feel of it, but once you know how to contract the quads you will be able to go much deeper into your forward bending.

There is much more to say about forward bending as the hamstrings is not the only group of muscles restricting the forward bend. More on that later!

I also talk about the ‘monkey’ postition which is an easy way to remember how to lift something up without straining your lower back. Remember: the danger is not in the weights – usually people lift heavy weights in a better way than the smaller weights…

I made this video in response to a question about last weeks video. So thank you for asking questions. In this way we co-create this channel to help even more people!

PhysioYoga weekly vlog week 16 – 2018 – intelligent stretching using reciprocal inhibition

The body is full of wonders and reciprocal inhibition is one of them. When used in a correct way it can support you in lengthening and opening muscles much more easily than with just ‘pulling on the muscle’.
